Eskom’s Group Treasurer, Andre Pillay has testified at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Parktown, Johannesburg, yesterday morning.
Pillay spilled the beans on how the power utility went behind Treasury’s back to have its corporate pan drafted. He implicated Anoj Singh, former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who brought in consultancy firms McKinsey and Trillian Capital to draft the power utility’s corporate plan, even though that responsibility fell under Treasury.
It’s hard to see this commission coming to an end because if all these people accused of this immense corruption do come and cross-examine witnesses like Pillay, it might really take few years before the commission is wrapped up because of the rot.
On Thursday, former Communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda and former Finance minister, Trevor Manuel testified.
Manuel said Fikile Mbalula told some ANC members that Mbalula was shocked that the Guptas communicated to him that he would be Sports Minister. It’s still incredulous that all these politicians allowed one leader, Zuma to bring a family, the Guptas that would have such horrible influence, and nearly bring the South African economy on its knees.
