The big guns in the police force are fighting and a storm is brewing. This follows the
arrest of former Acting Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane yesterday
morning. Police’s Supply Chain Management head Ravichandran Pillay,was arrested
alongside with Phahlane over an 86-million-rand blue lights tender.
Phahlane has blamed the trouble he is in on the former IPID head Robert McBride.
He says McBride is using him to paint himself as anti-corrupt. This emerged when
Phahlane applied for bail at the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes
court. Phahlane says all these happenings are meant to embarrass him. The court
granted him and Pillay bail of R20 000 each.
IPID former Gauteng Police Commissioner, Deliwe de Lange was also arrested last
year in connection with the matter.
Other big heads in the force who were arrested are National Divisional
Commissioner in charge of Supply Chain Management, Lieutenant General
Ramahlapi Mokwena, Brigadier James Ramajalum and Gauteng Deputy Police
Commissioner Nombhuruza Napo.
McBride is currently challenging in court the manner in which his contract was
Phahlane and Pillay will be back in court with the five other accused at the end of
