A man was arrested in a fast food outlet on Wednesday in Cape Town CBD following a tip-off that he was selling prescription medication.

The spokesperson for Saps Western Cape, Andre Traut says it received a tip-off from community members that there was a man selling abortion drugs on the street.

An undercover operation was set up on Wednesday morning and upon purchasing a pill for R1000 the man was arrested at a fast food outlet on Strand Street.

“We had a search warrant and we searched the suspect’s bag and we found 259 Misoprostol abortion tablets and 175 tablets of another type, valued at R270 000.”

“The suspect is a foreign national and he will appear in court on Friday in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court to face charges under the Medicine Control Act.”

Further investigations will be initiated to establish who is supplying this man with the tablets, says Traut.
