Linda Mti Granted R20 000 Bail

Linda Mti 2 e1549549043765 - Linda Mti Granted R20 000 Bail

Former Correctional Services boss Linda Mti has been granted R20,000 bail.

Mti appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday on charges of fraud and corruption after handing himself over at the Pretoria Central Police Station earlier on Thursday.

The case is linked to the misappropriation of R1.6 billion in tenders awarded to facilities management company Bosasa by the Correctional Services Department and its affiliates.

Mti will return to court on 27 March.

In a court appearance of less than 5 minutes, State lawyer Sandy Nkula-Nyoni told the court that because Mti flew from Port Elizabeth on his own accord and handed over his passport to authorities, they have no reason to oppose bail.

His lawyer told the court that while Mti was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2009 and paid a R20,000 fine, that is not enough reason to deny him bail.

Mti will appear along with his five co-accused, including former Bosasa CFO Angelo Agrizzi on 27 March.

A seventh suspect, who has not been identified, has also been informed of a warrant of arrest against him but it is not clear when he’ll hand himself over.
