Read full description of the books Alcaic Poems:Loved almost all the poems.........
This collection begins with this poem:
PAST AND PRESENT
In younger days I greeted the dawn with joy
And wept at dusk; while now, in my older age,
I start my day perplexed with doubt, but
Sacred and gay is to me its ending.
From the poem HOME:
Beloved shores, that reared me in days gone by,
Will you appease the sorrows by love begot?
And you, will once again you promise
Peace, if I come, O my childhood's forests?
For with the gift of heavenly fire, the gods
Bestow on mankind also the sacred griefs.
Be still, my soul. A son of earth you
Find me, created to love, to suffer.
The other poems are also lovely.
Read it aloud and you will have the best reading pleasure of your life.
