Read full description of the books Carry Me Back:

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Laura Watt fell for the Beatles when their records first hit American shores. Sneaking her older sister's albums, she played them and played them until they wore out. Then she bought their singles with her own allowance, and began collecting 16 Magazine, which was chock-full of Everything Beatle. Yeah yeah yeah.

She was writing stories by age nine, and her first novel, done in pencil, was titled Three Guitars and a Drum. It starred a little girl who started her own rock band and became hugely famous.

At nineteen, Laura headed off for New Orleans with $34 in her pocket and never looked back. After many years and many adventures, she landed in Miami Beach, where she became a reporter for The Miami Herald. During those years, she traveled to London and Liverpool to check out her heroes' favorite haunts.

In 1986, Laura moved to Denver to work for the Rocky Mountain News as a feature writer.

Meanwhile, the banjo and bluegrass had entered the picture. Already a guitar and uke player, Laura taught herself banjo and dove headlong into high lonesome mode. The Beatles remained, of course. Always.

Bluegrass led to a study of the history of country and old-time music, which inevitably led to Hank Williams, who inspired her first published novel, Carry Me Back.

As a journalist, Laura Watt received a Penney-Missouri Award for feature writing at the Rocky Mountain News and a Green Eyeshade Award from the Florida Press Association while at The Miami Herald.

Today, she owns and runs a yarn shop in Evergreen, Colorado, and continues to write. And play the banjo.
